About Us
37 years ago, in the fall of 1983, SSDS opened its doors to provide services to approximately 50 children. Founded by Suzanne Martin and Roni Horowitz, who served as Co-Executive Directors, the school has remained true to its original vision which embraced the sentiment that "All children can." SSDS further believes that the incorporation of the needs and culture of the family unit is essential to the young child's holistic growth, and that collaboration is at the core of quality service delivery.
Excellence
Over the course of the past 37 years, SSDS has strived to achieve and has been acknowledged for excellance in the field of early childhood education and early childhood special education. Having received, in earlier years, an Outstanding Early Childhood Program Award, presented by the New York State Department of Education, SSDS continues to be at the forefront of best practices in early childhood services, including a strong focus on social emotional curriculum and family service supports.
